You could stick a pin anywhere on a map of Ireland and pick out an area of natural beauty but the North West of the country is particularly prized for stunning landscapes, which go hand in hand with a defining Irish cultural history in arts, literature and music to present an authentic slice of the emerald isle.

Sligo is a town found here within the county which shares the name and amidst all the notable attractions is Sligo Racecourse, a popular local venue in which the high quality Sligo racing forms just a part of a memorable race day experience.
The racecourse is situated 1km from the town, in Cleveragh and although centuries of Sligo racing history predate the present course, built in 1955, the deep culture and appreciation of the sport is evident throughout. People who travel to Sligo from the East are particularly taken with the views on the journey, which are amongst the best in the country. The course itself is nestled between two mountains, Benbulben and Knocknarea, providing an incredible vista as the perfect accompaniment to the sport and to any time spent in the area.

Sligo racing offers something for everyone whether the preference is for Flat or National Hunt events and the standard of the competition is higher than may be expected from a local countryside course.
A Grade 2 course, Sligo has hosted some truly exciting races, contested by stars such as Jazz Princess, who won here before making a name as one of the finest two year olds in the country and finding success at the Curragh. One of the best novice hurdlers in Britain, Brewster also won at Sligo, in 2005. The track is not without its challenges and requires the very best work from the finest horses to succeed. A right handed oval, over a mile in distance, the second half leading to home is a steady incline which demands stamina and strength and results in many close and exciting finishes as well as notable upsets.
